Our Story

Mr.Nichha arrived in South Africa to seek a better future. After working in several places, he was employed as a cook in 1929 by Mr.Madoo Kanjee at 470 Church Street, where our head office still stands today.

In 1935 Mr.Kanjee sold the business to Mr.Nichha and repatriated to India… and in 1936 Kara Nichha’s was born.

Coming from an impoverished background, Mr.Nichha saw the need to produce affordable food for the less fortunate, a principle which is still prevalent today. Kara Nichha’s became renowned for its savoury snacks and sweetmeats. The most popular being chilli bites and gulab jamun.

Mr.Nichha passed on in 1980, leaving behind a legacy of affordable and delicious Indian cuisine.
